Gaudi - God's architect

The architect Antoni Gaudi was a holy man. Barcelona is rich with his work. This morning's tour took us through neighboods of his apartments, to the unique and gardens, finishing at his masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia.

My poor snaps do nothing to convey the magnificence of this creation. Hopefully they will tempt you to follow some of the links on this page.

The building of this basilica began in 1882. When he was asked how long it would take to complete, he replied that 'his boss (God) was not in a hurry). It will probably take several more generations before it is complete. Only eight of the smaller spires (representing eight of the twelve apostles) have been completed. Four more 'apostle' spires of the same height have yet to be built, as well as the four larger spires representing the evangelists and the two largest spires for the Blessed Virgin and Jesus Christ. (youtube clip here of completed representation)

The building itself tells the story of Catholic Christian Faith. The exterior walls are richly embedded with the stories of scripture and doctrine.

The three facades focus on the nativity, passion and the glory of Jesus.
