Lewis and prayer

C.S. Lewis.
29 November 1898 – 22 November 1963

Most readers of this blog will associate the name C.S. Lewis with his Narnia Chronicles, especially the best known "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". But before his seven Narnia books were published (one each year from 1950), Lewis was already well known as an academic and, through his writings and especially his radio talks, as a Christian apologist.

The Radio talks were a hope-filled BBC encouragement for the people of England in the heart of the turmoil of war. Later these talks were published as "Mere Christianity." Unfortunately only one of the radio broadcasts remains today (the others were taped over as a wartime cost-cutting measure).

I have no doubt that listeners found Lewis' talks compelling in large part because of his practical earthy examples.
